1970 Lotus Super 7 Restoration

By David Myers, MyAutoProject.com

Robert Woodcock bought his second Lotus Super 7, a 1970 Series III, in 1976.    He picked it up in the form of numerous cardboard boxes full of parts from the previous ownerwhich may have given birth to the phrase “some assembly required”.  Fast forward 30 years and Robert has assembled / restored his Lotus a total of 3 times.  Needless to say, he seems to have this process down pat and we think he qualifies as a Lotus Super 7 expert.

Roadster Reno, a 13 episode video series, chronicles Robert’s latest restoration which began in 2005.  He tells us this is his last – time will tell.

Datsun Roadster Competition Spring Install

Comp vs Stock

By 1960s standards, the stock ride height of our Datsun Roadster is already fairly low but when there is money to be blown on cool car parts, installing competition springs is a modification that is difficult to ignore.

The rear of the roadster already hides the tops of the rear tires so the car could stand to drop its nose a bit.  With height options ranging from the perfectly acceptable stock all the way down to the ridiculous “hella flush”, there is a lot of room to find an appropriate compromise between aesthetics and performance.

Follow along as we install shorter springs and new shock absorbers on the front of our ’69 Datsun 2000.

Datsun Matsuri 2013 Recap

image

Datsun Matsuri 2013 was a little smaller than 2012 but in terms of a good time, it was bigger and better.

The Datsuns have begun to attract spectators to the Knox Mountain Hill Climb that had never ventured to the site in the past. It looks like the Datsuns are a popular draw.

Removing Paint from a Lotus Elan +2

The Elan is down to the original primer with a little more sanding to go.

By Dave S. Clark
I bought my Lotus Elan +2 in the spring  of 2012 and one of the biggest projects I’ll be undertaking on it is the body work. As all Loti were at the time, my Elan is completely fiberglass. While that means I won’t be spending hours fixing rust during this restoration, it also means I’ll be spending a crazy number of hours getting the layers of paint off the body and repairing all the tiny spider cracks.
